Zell am See: construction site carousel turns
Traffic
In Zell am See the merry-go-round of road construction sites continues to turn. The Schmitten tunnel reopens on Saturday afternoon, and Thumersbacher Strasse is closed for this. Both construction sites are closely coordinated, according to the state of Salzburg. The work on the eastern shore of the lake will continue until autumn.
The general renovation of Thumersbacher Straße has been going on since 2019 and should be completed today. Most recently, the road was open, but only to prevent traffic collapse in the center of Zell am See. At the same time as the work on the east bank of Lake Zell was being carried out, the Schmitten Tunnel was closed for cleaning work.
Tunnel cleaning finished, road rehabilitation actually
THUS, the only remaining north-south connection in the region would have been the route directly through the city center of Zell and the planners of the state wanted to prevent that in any case. The work on Thumersbacher Straße was therefore temporarily interrupted in order to keep a bypass open for Zell. Now the cleaning of the Schmitten tunnel is completed and the work on the Thumersbach side can become natural again.
Asphalting in September completes the work
The final stage of the renovation involves the last 400 meters directly in the Thumersbach district. From Monday, the state road will be closed during the day – from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. – initially until the second week of July. But the work is not quite finished: In September, Thumersbacher Strasse has to be closed for renewed asphalting.
