More than 3,000 signatures against the road bypass project west of Toulouse
It is a road axis which makes it possible to unclog part of the ring road of Toulouse (Haute-Garonne). Led by Toulouse Métropole, the project for a western bypass consisted of reinforcing the A64 motorway, south of Toulouse, to the A62 to the north, using the current Arc-en-Ciel ring road, then the Voie lactée de Blagnac . To join the two motorways, the community is studying in particular the establishment of a road depending on the Arc en Ciel ring road at the A64, as well as the construction of a new road boulevard between Plaisance-du-Touch, Frouzins and Saint-Simon.
“Incoherent and outdated”
Urban developments denounced by the collective Ax Vert de la Ramée, bringing together around fifteen associations, which posted an online petition bringing together nearly 3,000 signatures. “This project includes the construction of new roads that would sacrifice green and wet areas on the edge of La Ramée Park, explains Sébastien Aubry, member of the Ax Vert de la Ramée collective. We have been talking about it since the 1970s, the debate came back in the 2010s and then today with the desire of elected officials to launch the work before 2026. It is a project that is inconsistent with the fight against global warming carried out by citizens, based on the outdated model of any car and in the midst of rising fuel prices. »
The municipalities affected by this western bypass project are Cugnaux, Tournefeuille and Plaisance-du-Touch. Its opponents ensure that the creation of a new road axis increased, according to studies, traffic. They point to a project spent, of around 276 million euros, which would degrade the air in their municipality while the Toulouse metropolis has set up a Low Emission Zone (ZFE). They propose to speed up the implementation of the express bike network to improve traffic in western Toulouse and the development of public transport.
