Heger and Morawiecki emphasized the continuation of assistance to Ukraine
Heger and Morawiecki emphasized the continuation of assistance to Ukraine.
Slovakia and Poland are united on the issue of sanctions against the future Russia and Ukraine from a European perspective. They continue to help Ukraine. He announced this to Prime Minister Eduard Heger after talks with Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki in Vyšné Ružbachy and at the castle in Stará Ľubovňa.
We are gilding
Morawiecki appealed to Western Europe, saying the war in Ukraine was a threat to the whole of Europe. She described EU aid for the country affected by the refugee crisis as insufficient. According to him, Slovakia and Poland should act together in this area at the European forum. The Morawicki praised Slovakia’s efforts to reduce its dependence on Russian gas.
“We are working intensively together. We will continue to persevere in this assistance. We are aware that it is very important how important it is for Ukraine to remain a free democratic country and for its territorial integrity to be respected.” Heger declared. According to him, sanctions against Russia need to be intensified. “We are united with Poland on this. We are also in tune, both in terms of the initiative and the future of Ukraine from a European perspective.” he added.
The partners also discussed the future of energy resources. “Poland is a key partner for us in the region. The connection between Poland and Slovakia, which should be completed this year, is being completed. A test launch is expected in July 2022,” Heger approached.
Morawiecki recalled that the intention of Russian President Vladimir Putin in the outbreak of war in Ukraine was to restore a great empire. He is convinced that he does not hide the expansion of his sphere of influence to Poland, Slovakia or the Baltic countries at all. “This is a goal that was achieved after the victory in Ukraine,” he added. Slovakia shows him an excellent attitude, although he is more dependent on Russian gas.
According to the Polish Prime Minister, aid to the affected reception refugee states in 2015, 2016 and 2017 was comparably greater than the package that the EU was able to deliver and propose today. According to him, Ukrainians are fighting for peace in our part of Europe as well as in the whole of Europe, and the West must remember that.
Poland example
Heger and Morawiecki also spoke at the joint briefing about cooperation within the V4. The Slovak Prime Minister disappointed Hungary’s comments on the situation in Ukraine. According to him, the V4 has no consensus on this issue. Morawiecki stressed the need to clearly name what is happening in Ukraine. He is outraged by statements about protesting sanctions against Russia. “We must not pretend that we do not have such a risk. Any hiding and pretending that it is otherwise is the wrong move.” closed.
Morawiecki sees opportunities for cross-border cooperation between Poland and Slovakia in infrastructure. “We talked about gas infrastructure during today’s meeting. It is also worth talking about the Via Carpatia and other communication links that can increase the trade, economic, investment and business potential of Poland and Slovakia.” Morawiecki said.
As Heger said, Poland is an example of efficient drawing of EU funds. “Unfortunately, ours has inherited a mechanism that has been set for 201-2020. We have prepared a new program, a partnership agreement for 2021-2027, that drawing will be more flexible. The future of our cooperation is both strong trade cooperation, which has great potential, and the potential of tourism and, of course, gas and road infrastructure, “ Heger stated.

At the meeting, Foreign Minister Ivan Korčok also held talks with Polish Foreign Minister Zbigniew Rau. The ministers also talked about the upcoming Slovak presidency of the V4. Korčok emphasized that the growing importance on the international scene was reflected, among other things, during the war in Ukraine. “We therefore want to work closely with Poland, to consult both regional and key international issues. We also talked about the fact that we do not have a unified opinion or attitude towards the Russian Federation within the V4. We have won and clear positions here.” said the head of Slovak diplomacy.
