Brazil meeting with the president of the San Rossore Park in Pisa
A bond between San Rossore Brazil was strengthened yesterday, Thursday 21 April, with the visit of the Estate of the representatives of the Brazilian army and in the Lorenzo Bani Park. During the Second World War the Força Expedicionária Brasileira (in Italian ‘Brazilian Expeditionary Force’ or FEB) contributed to the liberation of Italy from Nazi-fascism by fighting alongside the Allies. From about ’44 to about ’47 they were part of the large allied contingent that was stationed in San Rossore, both on the lawn next to Viale delle Aquile Randagie (or Cascine Nuove) and above all on the so-called ‘Prato dei Mori’ (not a random name ) at the beginning of Viale del Gombo on the southwest side of the racecourse. In this area the traces of the passage of the military are still visible, such as the holes dug in which were used by the mechanics for the ground repairs of the vehicles.
In these days the delegations of the department of history and culture of the Brazilian army and of the direction of the historical cultural heritage and of the social communications center are visiting Italy in memory of that period and San Rossore could not be missed among the stops. The visit ended with the delivery of a souvenir plaque.
