We rode the Dacia Spring, the cheapest tram in Portugal
QWhen we are looking for an electric car, there is only one truth. It’s impossible to find one cheaper than the Dacia Primavera. The Romanian brand’s objective is the same, to give consumers a low-cost version of whatever the segment it launches. Trams are no exception and Spring has a lot to offer.
I hit the road with the little Dacia Spring Comfort Plus and I can easily see all it has to offer. If I have to describe it in one word, it would be: simplicity. And, believe me, simplicity can sometimes be very important when choosing a car.
However, I don’t want to get lost in gems and let’s get down to business. Dacia announces a range of 305 km on the road and around 230 km in the city. I couldn’t reach the 300 mark, although I adopted a query below enough, with consumption 0 kWh/100 km. However, about 270/280 km of autonomy is still excellent considering the price paid for the Spring. And basically, it’s this thought that we always have to keep in mind when we evaluate the model. Still on consumption, it is important to say that the Eco mode little helps the autonomy to be extended. At least days I rode the Spring’s wheel, never found the difference between them.
In terms of charging, the Spring battery (26.8 kWh of capacity can be charged to a maximum of 30 kW in direct current, which makes a charge of 80% in about an hour. If we recharge using alternating current, the Standby time can range from 4:30 am (7.4 kW) to 13 hours (2.3 kW).
Space, comfort and interior
As I stated above, the Dacia Spring is not an oversized car, far from it. Still, I can say that it pleasantly surprises with its habitability.
The space it offers is satisfactory for a city dweller and there is not, at all, that feeling of feeling ‘cramped’ there. Neither in the United States, nor in addition, the boot offers almost 300 liters of capacity, which is quite generous, considering the size of the spring. Comfortable with regard to the driving position, the only fix is that the steering wheel is not mobile. It caused me some strangeness, but it is a less positive point to which we quickly get used to.
Without great luxuries in the cabin, the quality of the materials is not spectacular, but as I said above, you must always bear in mind that this car was made with the aim of being the cheapest electric car on the market.
Changing the focus, but still continuing on a theme that concerns the passenger compartment, I confess the following. I’m a fan of enough extras in a car, because everything that is too much becomes useless. However, the Dacia Spring had everything I think was needed. Infotainment system, possibility to connect your Android or iPhone mobile phone to the system, air conditioning, electric windows, central locking, cruise control, USB ports and even a reversing camera.
On the road
If there’s one thing you didn’t expect in this Dacia Spring, it was super lively and dynamic driving. It is not the right car for that and, therefore, expectations, logically, did not meet this. Still, this electric Dacia managed to put a smile on my face.
Very simple in structure, easy to get used to, and without any doubt. If we then look at the consumption figures… on point! It was a nice quality orientation, the spring orientation angle, I also want and here I leave a word from a more sinuous admirer with most of the bumps.
I also confess that it will take me to light consumption levels) on the instrument panel. It gets addictive watching how much electricity we are consuming. For this reason, consume less than 10 kWh/100 km. We could hardly get any other electric on the market.

ANALYZE
When we come forward with the key to one of the cheapest cars on the market, there can always be some prejudice. Spring managed to surprise us a lot because the positive Dacia is more than the aim of the attempt. A ‘low-cost’ electric car with good and beautiful arguments. I believe it’s the right car for short rides in the city.
