Tusker captain Asike completes the move to Sweden: The standard sport
Tusker captain Eugene Asike has signed for the Swedish third team IF Karlstad Football.
The defending champions on Monday confirmed the development when they thanked Asike for his commitment to help the club perform better.
“We want to confirm that the skipper Eugene Asike has left the club after the positive talks about a move to Swedish IF Karlstad Football”, says the club.
Asike has had two different stops with Tusker FC over the past six years, won two Premier League titles, an FKF Cup title and was named defender of the year last season as team captain.
“We thank Eugene for his services to the club. He has been a loyal servant and a dedicated player since he first moved here and we are delighted with his progress. He has diligently led this squad as captain over the last three seasons and we appreciate really his commitment, says club president Dan Aduda.
“We wish him all the best on his new journey and hope he will continue his success there.”
The defender joins the side on a one and a half year contract and will be commissioned to help the team reach the Swedish levels to the top class, something he says he is ready to do his best to help the team achieve .
Asike’s last match for Tusker was the FKF Premier League match against Vihiga Bullets in Nairobi where he unfortunately suffered a nose injury that required minor surgery.
He has since returned to full training and taken up fitness, before completing his move to Sweden.
When he leaves the country for a new adventure in Sweden, Eugene Asike has paid tribute to the club, having served in two different stingy areas over the past six years.
“I’ve had a good time at Tusker over the last six years. There have been ups and downs, but looking back, the good memories overwhelm the bad ones. I have enjoyed the club and developed as a player. That I got the captaincy also gave me more responsibility and I want to say thank you to the whole Tusker family. ”
“Looking back, 2016 was a good year because we won the double, but for me last season was the best for me. Leading the team to the title of captain and also being named the defender of the tears was the highlight of my time here at Tusker, says Asike.
