The prestigious publication made a ranking with the best Portuguese regions. NiT shows you the top 10.
A typical itinerary of Portugal always proposes that all and often include, such as Lisbon, Porto, Algarve. However, as in all countries, there are always less known lesser known ones — for the tourist life — that welcome us with historic streets, stunning views and a peaceful atmosphere.
Na, these quiet regions are spread across the country, from north to south (and not forgetting, of course, the islands). The prestigious “Condé Nast”, one of the largest publications related to tourism and travel, published on April 9 a ranking with the ten best villages in Portugal, outside the most common itineraries.
It may come as a surprise to many, but Carvalhal, near Comporta, was considered the most beautiful village in the country. “This small town is surrounded by pine forests, a village of stage and dunes near Comporta, with a beach of fields of white sand that is perfect for a horseback ride while the sun sets”, describes “Condé Nast”.
While you’re there, the magazine’s reporters recommend that you stop by Cavalos na Areia, a horse rental service, so you can stroll along the dunes along the beaches. For a more relaxed moment, you can always stop by the Comporta Beach Club, on Praia do Carvalhal, and order one of the cocktails to accompany the oysters and fresh fish.
Secondly, the publication the village of Lindoso, located in the Peneda do Gerês National Park, one of the main attractions in Portugal for all nature fans. There, you will find a landscape composed of 50 granaries, stone structures that help to preserve and dry the corn, which would later be consumed by the locals and others. In addition, the village stands close to a castle located less than five kilometers from the Spanish border, which was a huge benefit to Portugal during the War of Restoration, which raged between 1640 and 1668.
To close out the top three, they bet on Marvão, which is described as the “most beautiful Alentejo village”. Which is curious, since Carvalhal is also in the Alentejo.
“As soon as you arrive at the 13th century walls of Marvão, you will feel in love with all its charm. It is located on a magnificent escarpment at 862 meters, facing Spain. “These walls surround white houses, the Portuguese pavement and 15th century churches. Stop for a few days at the charming guesthouse on the main street and soak up the views from the terrace.”
