When were Blackhawk helicopters in Slovakia? According to the Ministry of Defense, the original deadline applies
As part of the 111.4 million contract, Slovakia also plans to retrofit nine Blackhawk helicopters, which were procured by the previous management of the department in 2015.
17.4.2022 (Webnoviny.sk) – Delivery of two multi-purpose helicopters UH-60M Blackhawk is expected by the Ministry of Defense of the Slovak Republic (MoD SR) to continue in 2025.
Martina Kovaľ Kakaščíková, a spokeswoman for the Ministry of Defense of the Slovak Republic, informed SITA about this, adding that Slovakia also plans to retrofit nine Blackhawk helicopters under a contract worth 111.4 million (USD) without VAT, which was procured by the previous management of the department in 2015.
All helicopters will be supplemented by two M240H on-board machine guns, while seven helicopters will be additionally equipped with a ballistic protection system.
In June 2021, the Slovak Ministry of Defense concluded an FMS (Foreign Military Sales) contract to procure two multi-purpose UH-60M helicopters with equipment for forces for special operations. Their purchase was approved by the government on June 2, 2021. The total cost of the contract is 111.4 million (USD) excluding VAT. Of this amount, the Ministry of Defense of the Slovak Republic will pay USD 61.4 million in installments.
The US government has already paid 50 million million of this amount without VAT. Using the grant, the Ministry of Defense wants to continue replacing the old Mi-17 M / LPZS helicopters with new ones compatible with NATO countries.
