The Oceanographic Institute of Monaco honors the polar worlds
The oceanographic institute of Monaco will honor the polar worlds, on the occasion of the centenary of the death of Prince Albert I, founder of the oceanographic institute and pioneer in modern oceanography. The latter was already involved in the protection of these lands, a legacy left to HSH Prince Albert II, who is also leading a fight for the protection of the poles.
The exhibition in question, “Polar Mission”, will offer visitors a 5-step immersion in the heart of the Arctic and Antarctica. First, they could meet the great explorers of yesterday and today who will talk about their work and their discoveries. They could then discover the world of the Inuit, thanks to more than 70 years of archives illustrating the life of the peoples of the Arctic. The third space will be dedicated to knowledge of the poles, to the differences between the Arctic and Antarctica, but also to current climate issues. With its 650 m2 of projection surface, the “immersion” room will allow you to appreciate the wild beauty of the landscapes of the two poles. Finally, the last space will be dedicated to the discovery of scientific advances and research.

During the exhibition, the visitor will be solicited: like a reporter, he will be provided with an entry ticket illustrating a press card. This will validate content and information throughout the visit. The visitor will be able to provide all the information useful for the creation of his report. At the end of the visit, he will be asked to be part of this famous report.
While waiting for this exhibition, which will begin on June 4, 2022Robert Calcagno, Director General of the Oceanographic Institute of Monaco, unveiled his new book, At the heart of the polar worlds, between warming and covetousness, published by Glénat. It invites you to discover all the richness and fragility of these polar regions and emphasizes the need to preserve them.
