After announcing that he would evaluate in Toulouse for the next three seasons, Melvyn Jaminet (22) explains this Friday in L’Equipe why he made this choice. Incidentally, the back of USAP also responds to criticism from Perpignan supporters, whom he nevertheless understands.
Melvyn Jaminet for three years in Toulouse is already almost ancient history. The talented rear of Perpignan officially confirmed Thursday evening on Canal+ that he would evaluate in the Pink City during the next three seasons. It remained to be seen why the 22-year-old French international had decided to leave USAP before the end of his contract (he was linked to Catalan colors until June 2024) and why for Toulouse and not another club. The person concerned answers the two questions this Friday in The Team. “It’s a carefully considered choice. When I signed my first professional contract with USAP, the club wanted to accompany me to climb as high as possible. But I had exit clauses if my progress went faster than expected (…) I was frank with my club by telling them that I had been asked. I had their approval. It was a relaxation. I did not want to leave like a thief after all that the club had distributed me.” A way of anticipating the criticism he has been subjected to from Perpignan supporters since the latter learned that their new idol was no longer working at the Aimé-Giral stadium at the start of the school year. The future Toulousain admits that he expected it and is not offended. Better: he understands perfectly that fans were able to target him.
Jaminet: “It’s not a choice that scares me”
“In Perpignan, we only talk about that. It’s normal that it annoys everyone, including me. Some supporters defended me, others less so. No problem.” “Despite the criticism, I feel strong support,” adds the Varois, who also recognizes that the project that Stade Toulouse has put on his table made him say yes without hesitation. “I liked the project right away (…) When Stade Toulousain contacts you, it’s hard to refuse. All the conditions were met to go there (…) Deep inside me, it made me dream.” And to those who think he is taking a risk in relation to his status as an indisputable and undisputed holder with the XV of France, Jaminet responds on the contrary that by offering to join this club which makes him “want to win titles and play the final stages every season”, this can only be “beneficial (for him) in view of the France team and a possibly World Cup”. “I’m leaving to assess, to raise my level of play. It’s not a choice that scares me”, confides the back of the USAP, without hiding that he did not expect to achieve such a season and a reminder of the struggle today to realize what is happening to him. “Sometimes I think it’s crazy!” Is he really wrong?
