Jesse Schevel specialist ‘public & government affairs’ Greenhouse Horticulture Netherlands
Jesse Schevel started at Greenhouse Horticulture Netherlands on 1 April as a specialist in ‘public & government affairs’ and international affairs. he partly succeeds, who has been active as a lobbyist in Brussels for the past two years and is now politically active in Belgium. “But I will also mainly tackle the lobby in The Hague”, Jesse admits.
the political lobby in The Hague is becoming more centralized. “Until recently, this was the responsibility of the various theme specialists and beforehand with the board and management. We’re going to put that more in with me now. Of course I work closely with the theme specialists, chairman Adri Bom-Lemstra and director Ruud Paauwe. That applies to matters that are national in The Hague, but also European in Brussels.”
LNV and LTO
Before coming to Greenhouse Horticulture Netherlands, Jesse worked, among other things, at the Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality in Berlin and The Hague. “There I was already dealing with glasshouse horticulture, there because of research into the development of glasshouse horticulture in Germany.” Next month he will hold this position with activities for LTO Nederland. “Partly because of the European Green Deal, my development from LTO has been fairly well received in the climate and environmental files, which greenhouse horticulture has had to deal with.”
Import growers
Although Jesse formally mainly has a policy function within Greenhouse Horticulture Netherlands, he also regularly visits growers. “The decision-making process in Brussels in particular is a ‘far from my bed show’ for many growers. In conversations I would like to discuss the importance of our lobby in Brussels. I want to include growers in the processes for the coming years right from the start, in the hope that they will also provide me with important input for my work there in the meantime.”
