Easter weekend: Weather becoming cooler and unsettled – Austria
This is how the weather will be on the Easter weekend: From Good Friday, the temperatures will drop throughout Austria and it will become more unstable.
As the meteorologists at the Central Institute for Meteorology and Geodynamics (ZAMG) forecast on Thursday, it will be unstable across the country on Good Friday and Holy Saturday. The sun comes out on Easter Sunday, but it stays relatively cool. Especially in the morning, the temperatures remain rather isolated. It is warmest in western Austria.
Cold front brings cooler temperatures and rain from Good Friday
With a cold front swinging through, the weather on Good Friday will be unstable across the country with rain showers and only brief warm phases. The focus of precipitation is initially in the north and shifts to the south-east over the course of the day, but further showers are also falling in the north dam of the Alps. Occasionally there is thunder and lightning. The wind from west to north refreshes moderately in some places. The early temperatures are three to twelve degrees, daily maximum temperatures 13 to 21 degrees.
From Holy Saturday the weather will be better again
On Holy Saturday there will be a lot of clouds at the beginning and rain showers will fall, especially north of the main Alpine ridge. The snow line in Lower Austria is around 900 meters and in Vorarlberg around 1,600 meters above sea level. In the south and in the far east, on the other hand, the dry phases predominate and there the sun is already appearing more often in the morning. In the afternoon the clouds generally become less, they last the longest on the north side of the Alps and in the north-east. The wind near the ground blows in the east temporarily strong to strong from northerly directions, otherwise often only weak to moderate. The early temperatures are only three to nine degrees, daily maximum temperatures of eight to 17 degrees, depending on the sun.
Easter Sunday will remain largely dry
Easter Sunday offers plenty of sunshine in the west and south-west. However, alongside sunny spells, there will be some denser cloud further north and east. But here, too, it will remain largely dry until the evening. The wind often blows moderately, at higher altitudes and on the eastern edge of the Alps also briskly from the north to north-east. Early temperatures minus two to plus four degrees, maximum daily temperatures fresh nine to 15 degrees.
On Easter Monday, the sun will prevail in Vorarlberg, in Tyrol and in East Tyrol. The sun also shines at times further north and east. From the north, however, a few denser clouds will also pass through again and again during the course of the day. Apart from only a few short and, above all, infertile rain showers, it should remain largely dry until the evening. The wind will blow moderate to strong from northerly directions. On the south side of the Alps, a north foehn blows. In the morning it is minus three to plus four degrees. The daily maximum temperatures are eleven to 16 degrees. It is warmest in western Austria.
On Tuesday there will be some sunshine across most parts of the country along with a few denser clouds until the evening. A few local rain showers can only form south of the main Alpine ridge during the afternoon hours. Apart from that, it will remain largely dry. The prevailing wind direction is north to east. The wind sometimes blows moderately from here, especially in the Danube valley or in the eastern lowlands. It’s minus two to plus four degrees in the morning. The daily maximum temperatures are forecast at nine to 17 degrees.
