ICE: Salzburg are champions! But what’s next for McIlvane? – Winter sports – Ice hockey
On Thursday from 5 p.m. in the Salzburg Volksgarten-Arena the post is on!
With the seventh championship title in the win2day ICE Hockey League in their luggage, the cracks of EC Red Bull Salzburg will be duly welcomed in their home arena.
With all the cheerfulness and euphoria, however, the future also casts its shadow. Team manager Helmut Schlögl seemed wistful on Monday after winning the title in Hungary.
“It’s a great team and it’s a shame that a team never lasts like this,” Schlögl said in the “SNquoted.
McIlvane as a key character
The “Eisbullen” have already had four departures. Goalie JP Lamoureux said goodbye to Villach at the age of 37, where he will keep goal for two years. In addition, Kilian Zündel (Ambri-Piotta/Switzerland), Danjo Leonhardt (Nuremberg) and Brian Lebler (back to Black Wings) are turning their backs on the city of Mozart.
Above Salzburg, the basic structure should remain in place. The reigning number one in goal, Atte Tolvanen, has also signed a new contract.
The situation is not more delicate on the player side, but on the coach side. Although mastermind Matt McIlvane has an available contract that the American will sooner or later inherit Don Jackson at Red Bull Munich, it seems set in stone.
Brennan back to Switzerland?
Additional question marks follow the personal details of Thomas Raffl and TJ Brennan. While Raffl is likely to come to an agreement in the fall, Brennan could actually move on.
The 33-year-old American has attracted attention with his impressive performances (59 scorers in 60 games). Swiss top clubs should have the offensive defender in their sights. Private happiness lures the high fee, Brennan’s girlfriend lives in Switzerland.
All the future banter will die “Eisbullen” not in the works at least this week. There are too many successes and milestones to celebrate with the fans.
