Toulouse. The Grindouse Paradise Festival puts gender in the spotlight!
The third edition of Grindhouse Paradise, the Fantastic Film Festival of Toulouse, takes place from April 14 to 17 at the American Cosmograph.
Informed moviegoers and occasional spectators are thus invited to explore the paths of cinema through a selection of 15 quirky films which offer, each in their own way, to move away from the marked roads of ordinary productions of the 7th arrondissement. Art.
Episode III of Grindhouse Paradise proposes, among other things, to adopt a demonic Finnish sparrow (Egō), to be hypnotized by an enigmatic nasty video (Censor, in the presence of the director), to participate in an Austrian mystical experience ( Masking Threshold), to embark on a telekinetic trip to New Orleans (Mona Lisa and the Blood Moon), to explore the colorful daydreams of a tax auditor (Strawberry Mansion) or to thwart a plot fomented by diabolical puppets ( Franck & Zed).
Also in stock, a grimy Hong Kong thriller (Limbo), a surreal sci-fi anthology (Undergods, in the presence of the director), a Kazakh slasher (Sweetie, You Won’t Believe It), Japanese time loop porn (Beyond the Infinite Two Minutes), a Thai shamanic documenter (The Medium) and a Taiwanese zombie orgy (The Sadness).
The Grindhouse Paradise rolls out the red carpet to two filmmakers whose first feature films are simply stunning: Prano Bailey-Bond (Censor, Friday April 15 at 4 p.m.) and Chino Moya (Undergods, French premiere on Saturday April 16 at 7 p.m.). Also on hand will be Aurélien Zimmermann from Shadowz (who will present the Beyond the Infinite Two Minutes session on Sunday April 17 at 11 a.m.) and the programmer of the Festival Extrême Cinéma, Frédéric Thibaut (who will introduce the cult Creepshow session on Sunday April 17 at 4:30 p.m.).
Finally, the author illustrator Alex Chauvel, will meet Toulouse residents during a dedication meeting organized at the Librairie Ombres Blanches (conference room) on Thursday April 14 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
A visual by Johan Borg
This year, the visual by illustrator Johan Borg features an essential icon of pop culture: the kaiju. Popularized by the famous Japanese saga Godzilla, this term designates gigantic creatures capable, according to their mood, of ravaging entire cities as if they were Lego constructions or of protecting humanity from the most malevolent giant monsters. “
In the continuity of the first two posters of the festival, the visual of this third edition was produced in ink and by hand, in the spirit of old cinema posters, with a resolutely modern and pop approach.
A limited edition silkscreen print of this poster will be available for purchase at the Grindhouse Paradise Festival merchandising booth (April 14-17, 2022).
