In Jonava, the sea of crocuses blooms

A celebration of cherry blossoms in the cherry orchard

It can be immortalized surrounded by Lithuanian flowers – several dozen cherry trees have been planted near the former hut of her parents. In May, the traditional Cherry Blossom Festival takes place in Utena district, on the shores of Lake Labė. True, you need to learn that cherries begin to bloom in early May and, depending on the weather, bloom for about two weeks.
Sakura – not only to admire, but also to taste
You can find the route of everyone’s favorite Japanese cherry – sakura in May almost all over Lithuania – on the “Travel in Lithuania” website. But did you know that it is already possible not only to see, but also to taste? In Kretinga district, in the village of Mažųjų, the largest Japanese garden in Europe, created according to the old traditions of Japanese gardens, you can not only admire the spectacular view and capture the photos of amazing beauty, but also taste the sakura tea! During the high season, the tea house here offers tea made from sakura blossoms, marinated in Japanese plum vinegar and salted in sea salt. Such tea is drunk in Japan only on special occasions.
Although many people visit the capital’s sakura park, they can also be admired in the port city – in the renovated square in Klaipeda near the Dane River. There is a comfortable lounge with a children’s playground. Sakuras can also be enjoyed in Suwalki, in the park of Šunskai town, where as many as 23 Japanese sakuras share their flowers, and their number is growing every year.
The symbol of love is the fluctuating poultry milk from Madeira
When visiting Jurbarkas district, Raudone, at the beginning of May, you can see a plant with a very romantic history. The people of Raudoniškės call this plant “Kesteriukis”, and the botanists call it the oscillating bird’s milk. Once a Portuguese, José de Faria e Castro, who fell in love with Sofia Vaisel, the grandson of Sofia Kaisarova, the ruler of the Red Castle, brought a flower of delicate beauty from Madeira, a symbol of extraordinary love. With these flowers around the castle there are thousands of flowers, which do not bloom for a long time while traveling around Lithuania.
Unforgettable slopes in Samogitia and Aukštaitija
You can admire the Unforgettable Symbols of Defenders of Freedom Day by visiting the Hill of Crosses, which is popular in both Šiauliai and foreign tourists, when the slopes of the mountain are covered in blue in the second half of May.

Nobel laureate in the birthplace of Czeslaw Milosz is a spree of wild flowers. In the Nevėžis valley, called Miloš meadow, St. Peter’s Keys – Primrose. They are mentioned in the poet’s autobiographical novel The Valley of Isa. Primrose is a mood-boosting flower, so having a pot of primrose at home is recommended for those who are under a lot of stress or often in a bad mood. Called the golden keys that open the summer door – the flowers of the primrose delight in May in Šeteniai, Kėdainiai district.
Hydrangea Park
One of the longest flowering plants is the colored hydrangea. More than 500 hydrangea shrubs, the flowers of which resemble descending clouds, attract the eye of all passers-by on the Panevėžys – Kupiškis road. One of the enchanting varieties here is that the flowers change color – at first they bloom white, later they turn red. They can be seen in Kakūnai village in Panevėžys district from July to October.
