Ardy Stemerding new NOS correspondent in Brussels
Ardy Stemerding will be the new correspondent for the NOS in Brussels. He will succeed Sander van Hoorn on 1 July, who will then have his term in the Belgian capital.
Together with Kysia Hekster, Stemerding will report from Brussels on the European Union, NATO and developments in Belgium.
Nomination
Stemerding started at the NOS in 2007 as an intern at the Binnenlandredactie, during his master’s degree in Journalism at the University of Groningen. After graduating, he started working for RTV Utrecht as a radio and television reporter.
His next job was with the predecessor of good morning Netherlands from WNL. Because of his work there, he was nominated for the Philip Bloemendal Prize in the category of young journalistic presentation talent.
In 2012, Stemerding returned to the NOS home office as a desk editor. Between 2015 and 2019, he made the move to The Hague as a reporter for the editorial board.
Competent and enthusiastic
“His experience around the Binnenhof makes him eminently suitable for making current developments at the EU, NATO and, last but not least, Belgian politics,” says editor-in-chief NOS News Marcel Gelauff. “With Ardy we have a competent and enthusiastic replacement for Sander van Hoorn, who has done an excellent job over the past five years.”
Stemerding expects the Russian invasion of Ukraine to leave “a huge mark” on his correspondentship. “Because the invasion affects the future developments of our time. Think of the energy transition, migration, defense and the enlargement of the Union,” he says.
I think the names of the NOS should be reported and I look forward to manning Bureau Aïda Brand Brussels together with colleagues and Kysia Hemp.”
