It is by press release that Jean-Luc Moudencthe mayor (L/R) of Toulousereacted Monday at midday to the results of the first round of thepresidential electionSunday April 10, 2022. A letter in which he mentions the national results, but does not dwell on the local figures, which the first magistrate did not wish to comment on.
Valérie Pécresse and the right at 3.8% in Toulouse
It must be said that the results are simply calamitous for the right in Toulouse, the largest city in France managed by the Republicans, although it traditionally votes on the left in national elections. Because if in the fourth city of France, the first magistrate is stamped LR and classified among the “Macron-compatible” mayorsit’s good Jean-Luc Melenchon who is widely acclaimed. With 36.95% of the vote this time, the rebellious candidate – supported by almost all of the opposition group AMC (Alternative Municipaliste Citoyenne) in Toulouse – achieves one of his best scores in the major cities of France, after Lille and Montpellier. Compared to 2017, he collected 16,000 additional votes and widened his gap with Emmanuel Macron, who lost 1,000 and peaked at 26.39%. More than ten points separate the two men, there were less than two five years ago. Above all, the candidate supported and sponsored by Jean-Luc Moudenc, Valérie Pécresse, achieves a low historic performance in Toulouse, where it peaks at 3.8%. That is one point less than its poor score at the national level! Even where François Fillon garnered 17.67% of the vote in 2017.
Moudenc castigates LR’s “positioning errors”
For Jean-Luc Moudenc, “the results of the first round of the presidential election confirm the serious democratic crisis than cross our country”. The elected official calculates that “abstention and extreme votes represent a very clear majority of French people: more than 67% of voters”.
If Jean-Luc Moudenc does not therefore pour out on the local results, he says he is “disappointed with the score of Valérie Pécresse” and deplores “positioning errors” of his political family.
“I am disappointed with the score of Valérie Pécresse, whom I am happy to have supported and who presented the most solid project, the best financed, far from easy slogans and any demagogy. Her courage and her extraordinary strength of character – that I greet very warmly – have not been able to counterbalance the errors of positioning of our political family over the past 5 years”.
“Our country needs reforms”, says Jean-Luc Moudenc
“The annihilation of the formations which have governed France alternately for a long time is a choice of the voters which can only be heard and respected”, continues Jean-Luc Moudenc, while opposing “that this constitutes a great danger to our democracy”. With Macron in the text, the elected LR allied with LREM in Toulouse believes that “our country needs reforms”:
“However, more than ever, our country needs reforms to strengthen its economic competitiveness and sovereignty, while accelerating the essential ecological and energy transition. More than ever, we must hear the suffering of the French entangled in the difficulties of daily life. or worried about the future of our country. By giving them hope and prospects, by enhancing their purchasing power, by reducing poverty and investing in education and health. Finally, more than ever, we must restore the republican authority in all areas”.
For Moudenc, the RN program “would lead to ruin”
In the eyes of Jean-Luc Moudenc, “it is essential that the affairs of the State be conducted with seriousness and competence”. Thus, he believes that the French cannot “reasonably take the risk”, of entrusting “the destiny of France to incompetent and inexperienced people, under the influence of anger”, whose economic program “would lead to ruin. All this would certainly end very badly”, he analyzes, before announcing his choice (unsurprisingly) for the second tour.
“For all these reasons, I will vote for Emmanuel Macron in the second round of the presidential election”.
Call for “a very large gathering of a new nature”
Jean-Luc Moudenc met Emmanuel Macron on guard before the second round, and called him directly to widen its presidential majority: “He can only be re-elected and succeed in a second term on the condition of achieving a very broad rallying of the French, of a totally new and non-political nature”. What does he mean by this “very large gathering”? While LR is on the verge of implosion, is he ready to franchise the Rubicon in turn, like Édouard Philippe and other Jean Castex? The first magistrate does not develop.
“It is up to him (Emmanuel Macron, editor’s note) to give concrete guarantees, which cannot be limited to poaching, such a gathering involving the integration of project elements from other candidates. to his own presidential program in the second round”.
While the left of the left is 40% cumulative in Toulouse, and that if we add the results of Marine Le Pen, Éric Zemmour and Nicolas Dupont-Aignan, the line of the line is at 17.15%, Finally, Jean-Luc Moudenc worries about “the unprecedented strength of the candidates of all excesses, in continuous progression”. He considers that “the convergence of all the sensitivities of the government and skills are essential to carry out the reforms essential to the future of our country and our people, because the Presidential Majority alone would not succeed”. Macron in the text, we tell you.
