District Metals Corp. begins drilling in its property Tomtebo in Bergslagen’s mining district
“We continue to increase our understanding of the high-quality polymetallic mineralized system at the historic Santa’s Mine by using modern exploration techniques,” said CEO Garrett Ainsworth
District Metals Corp. (TSX-V: DMX) has announced that they have started core drilling in their high-quality polymetallic Tomtebo property located in Bergslagen’s mining district in southern central Sweden.
The Vancouver-based developer of potential mineral properties said that GEOPS-Bolkan Drilling Services Ltd has been awarded the contract for the drilling program, which will include 1,200 meters (m) in three holes, followed by drilling 1,800 m in 10 holes at the Gruvberget property. 40 kilometers (km) northwest of Tomtebo.
Drilling permits for 800 meters in two holes at the company’s Bakar Copper property on northern Vancouver Island continue and drilling can begin in June or July 2022, District Metals added.

“We continue to increase our understanding of the high-quality polymetallic mineralized system at the historic Santa’s Mine using modern exploration techniques,” said CEO Garrett Ainsworth in a statement. “This phase of drilling will test some very exciting targets identified from our work so far. For example, the massive sulphide lenses in the Steffenburgs zone captured by our 2021 drilling have returned significant breadths of high quality polymetallic mineralization that remains open in many directions. We are also keen to aggressively step out of the Tomtebog mine with this current drilling program, to further assess one of the many other coincident geophysical targets outside and along the trend from the Tomtebog mine that remains untested. ”
District Metals said that the primary goals of Tomtebo’s property drilling program include:
- Two steps out of holes during high-grade polymetallic mineralization at the Steffenburgs zone, where its recently reported hole TOM21-028 crossed 30 m at 10.9% zinc equivalent, to test for potential extensions of the solid sulfide lenses at depth.
- An aggressive 665 m stepped out northeast of the historic Tomtebog mine at a virgin regional target to test a magnetic high anomaly along the Tomtebo Mine Volcanogenic Massive Sulphide (VMS) mineralized horizon. The magnetic high anomaly at this target has a similar signature to the magnetic high associated with polymetallic mineralization at the Steffenburg zone. The location of the favorable VMS-mineralized horizon has been determined using Helbergsgeochemistry, which connects the Oscars mine zone with the regional borehole TOM21-023B, which was drilled 1 km northeast along the trend from the Tomtebog mine.
The Tomtebo project in Bergslagen’s mining district in Sweden is District Metal’s main exploration focus.
Tomtebo covers 5,144 hectares and is located between the historic Falung mine and Boliden’s Garpenberg mine, which are located 25 km to the northwest and southeast, respectively.
Two historic polymetallic mines and many polymetallic displays are located on the Tomtebo property along an approximate 17 km trend that exhibits similar geology, structure, change and VMS / SedEx mineralization as other significant mines within the district.
