Brussels fine champion for LEZ violations – FLEET.be
Anyone who enters a Low Emission Zone (LEZ) with a non-compliant vehicle must pay the price. And a survey by confused.com showed that the Belgian cities are ahead of the curve when it comes to fines… Brussels has the dubious honor of being the most expensive in Europe.
The whole of the Brussels-Capital Region is considered a LEZ. Petrol impacts on the Euro 2 and 5 emission standard and diesel targets. Euro 2 refers to registered since 1997, Euro 5 refers to those registered since 2011.
Failure to comply with the rules means that as a resident of Belgium you will receive a fine of € 350. For foreigners, men in Brussels are more lenient with a fine of € 150. If you are just passing through, you can buy a moose, which costs 35 euros .
Although they are a little behind the capital in terms of fines, two Belgian cities come in second.
Antwerp and Ghent start minimum regulatory emissions standards of Euro 5 for diesel vehicles and Euro €150 for a first use, rising to €250 and then €350 for repeat offenders. In Brussels, day passes can be bought and emissions will be tightened.
As the list shows, in other countries people are much more lenient with the fines policy.
