From this Sunday, the Caen tram stops circular in the evening until April 22 for rail maintenance
This Sunday, April 10, the maintenance work on the rails of the Caen tramway begins. The work will take place in the evening and replacement buses will be put in place.
Three years after its commissioning, the “new” Caen tramway (the successor to the TVR) is undergoing extensive maintenance, or rather the rails on which it runs. “With the acceleration and braking of the tramway, the rails wear out, causing undulations and vibrations, sources of discomfort for passengers and local residents.s”, indicates Kéolis, the operator of the Twisto network. The construction site starts this Sunday April 10 in the evening and will last until Friday April 22 (with an interruption from April 15 to 18, i.e. roughly during the Easter weekend ).
Concretely, the operation will consist in sanding the rails (we speak of grinding) using an imposing machine on several portions of the lines in service. “The work does not make any more noise than the passage of a truck or that of a generator. Noise pollution decreases as the machine advances on the rails“, assures Kéolis in its press release. On several portions, the residents were only to be inconvenienced for one night (see the calendar above). As for the dust released by the sanding, it is supposed to be sucked up by the machine.
The consequence of this work is that the tram no longer runs in the evening, between 9 p.m. and 4 a.m., in the streets of Caen until April 22 (with the exception of the Easter weekend break ). Substitution buses will therefore be put into service throughout this period. The timetables and routes of these “plan B” buses are available for consultation on the Twisto website. Note that this maintenance operation will be repeated each year.
