Silver medal for civil merit in Casteldelci, 78 years ago the Fragheto massacre
The April 7, 1944, Fraghetofraction of the municipality of Casteldelci, was the scene of a ruthless massacre, committed as part of the roundup in which the Nazi-fascists slaughtered 30 people – 15 women, seven children, six elderly and two young people – and 15 partisans captured during the clashes with the Garibaldi Romagnola brigade. The action does not end on that day but moves the next day to Ponte Carattoni, now dedicated to Eight Martyrs killings at the hands of the Nazi-Fascists. The previous day, eight prisoners had been captured, then taken to the bed of the Senatello river and there shot.
Today a commemoration ceremony a Casteldelcito which the Silver medal for civil merit with this force: “Small center, during the last world war, having provided momentary hospitality to a group of partisansit was subjected to a fierce and blind reprisal by the German troops, which slaughtered thirty of its citizens, mostly elderly, women and children, and destroyed the entire town ”.
Among those present, in addition to the mayor Fabiano Toniellithe president of the Legislative Assembly Emma Petiti who said: “It is our duty to remember dramatic and atrocious events like the one that happened here in Fragheto 78 years ago. An episode that belongs to the history of an entire country at war, of people who at twenty put their lives in danger with an idea of freedom in their heads. And it is thanks to the sacrifice of those people if today we can live in democracy and freedom “. Petitti also reiterated the Region’s commitment to the conservation of the memory. There was also the commemoration Beppe Gabrielli, survived the massacre. “A wound that cannot be erased and that we must continue to remember, for freedom, rights and peace”, commented the mayor of Santarcangelo di Romagna, Alice Parma.
