We celebrate Slovenia, the removal of hazardous waste from households
The Slovenian flag hangs over Pueblo
The City of Pueblo and the Pueblo Fraternal Cities Commission celebrated the 30th anniversary of the US recognition of Slovenian independence at a flag-raising ceremony at Sister Cities Plaza on Thursday.
“This is an opportunity to celebrate Slovenia’s freedom and unite our melting community here in Pueblo,” Pueblo Mayor Nick Gradisar said in a statement. “Here in America, we are aware of how important our freedom is to us, and I look forward to this opportunity to support our sister city of Maribor in Slovenia in their celebration of independence.”
The United States officially recognized the independence of the Republic of Slovenia on April 7, 1992, after seceding from the former Yugoslavia after a short war.
Maribor, Slovenia is one of the six twin cities recognized by the Pueblo Twin Cities Commission. The sister city is officially a broad-based long-term partnership between two communities in two different countries.
Puebla’s six sister cities are: Bergamo, Italy; Chihuahua, Mexico; Lucca Sicula, Sicily; Maribor, Slovenia; Puebla in Mexico and Weifang in China.
