Avalanche danger
In the High, Low and Western Tatras and in the higher positions of other mountains, there is a slight avalanche danger, ie the 2nd degree. The Mountain Rescue Service informs about it on its website.
Due to the warming of the snow cover, it gradually becomes wet, the wet snow becomes unstable on the old hard surface. Smaller spontaneous wet avalanches are expected on steep slopes up to 2,000 meters above sea level.
In the high parts of the Tatras, the snow from the last snowfall is still dry. It is stored mainly on the southern and southwestern slopes, under walls, saddles and narrow steep gutters in the form of snow cushions and boards with a thickness of 50 centimeters. In these places, avalanches may come loose, especially with heavier additional loads. The tendency of avalanche danger will increase during the day during warming.
