Racing Victoria has appointed Andrew Jones as its new CEO as of July 11, 2022.
Giles Thompson has announced his resignation as CEO of RVs in January this year and will continue until June 30, 2022 to facilitate a smooth transition for Mr. Jones.
Jones was chosen based on his extensive strategy and leadership experience. He had previously served as Chief Strategy Officer of Cricket Australia (2010-12) and Chief Executive Officer of Cricket New South Wales (NSW) from 2013-19. He is currently the interim CEO of Netball NSW.
During the cricket, she played a key role in the development of several key initiatives, most notably the creation of the Big Bash and its successors, the BBL and the WBBL, and the professionalization of women’s domestic cricket.
Most recently, Mr. Jones has led The Killer Group, a consulting firm that specializes in growing selected businesses and advising boards and CEOs on business strategy and major projects, particularly in the sports industry.
As part of his consulting work, Jones assisted RV and its member clubs in establishing the Victorian Thoroughbred Racing Integrated Media Business (VTRIMB) and served as interim CEO of Racing.com for five months in 2021.
Brian Kruger, chairman of Racing Victoria, said: “The board is delighted to appoint Andrew Jones as CEO and we expect him to take office later this year.
“Andrew joins Racing Victoria, who has a wealth of experience in business, strategy and sports management, as well as a unique understanding of VTRIMB thanks to his time as a consultant in our media business and as interim CEO of Racing.com last year.
“The Victorian Thoroughbred Racing Industry has experienced significant growth and investment during Giles’ tenure, and we are confident that the sport will thrive and thrive under Andrew’s leadership in the years to come.”
Mr Jones said: “I am honored to be invited to lead Racing Victoria in the next phase of its growth. Giles, his team, and the entire industry have done a wonderful job through COVID, and I would like to start by acknowledging it.
“It is now our job to build on this legacy. Racing Victoria is working hard with our clubs, participants, board, commercial and media partners to grow Victorian Racing’s fan base, revenue and social licenses and reinvest in sustainable growth.
“I’m very excited about the people, the industry and the opportunities and I’m looking forward to starting in July.”
