Toulouse: why the CHU Rangueil wants to sell its historic nursery to a private group
CHU Rangueil nursery staff will be on strike on Thursday, April 7, against a plan to sell their structure to the private sector.
The Rangueil University Hospital crèche in Toulouse has been welcoming 110 children, mainly staff toddlers, for several decades. The management of the CHU is in talks to sell this activity to a private group, which would be in charge of the reconstruction of a new building. At the call of the CGT in particular, the agents will be on strike, Thursday, April 7, to demonstrate against this project. “This private group is there to make money. On their request to invest in a new building, equipment. But how will they be paid? It can only be on the optimization of cradles and the payroll”, comments Patricia Calmettes, staff representative.
“decline in staff, quality, degradation of working conditions…”
For striking employees, the transfer to the private sector will have harmful effects on activity: “few additional places for hospital workers, with outward opening projects; Ia reduction in the number of staff and the gradual replacement of childcare workers, educators, CAP, ASH, etc. from public status to private status; youdecline in the quality of the public service provided to children and parents; youdeterioration of working conditions, and the‘price increase’.
The staff representatives were to meet with the management of the CHU, this Wednesday, April 6 at the end of the day, to discuss the file.
