The war in Ukraine has affected the whole world. The American skier Mikaela Shiffrin, who decided to use her opportunities and help, is no exception.
She published a social media article calling on people for help and also organized a collection. He was also noticed by Slovak Darka from Košice, who thought that Mikaele would try to write. And so she did.
“As a child, I also skied, it’s my heart and I’ve been watching skiing ever since. I was in a distribution warehouse with one Ukrainian family, which I accommodated here. It was there that they solved the lack of pasta and some things. That’s when I remembered that she put Mikael on social networks, that she wanted to help and also created collections. So I thought I’d write it. It was just a blind shot, “ described Darka as it all began.
“Then I went to the World Cup finals in Courchevel. I’ve been planning to go there for a long time. I met her there and took a Ukrainian ribbon from me. But I didn’t want to deal with her. She was celebrating her victory and it didn’t work out for me. “ Darka said.
In the meantime, she had forgotten that the American ski star was writing at all when she received a warning that Mikaela Shiffrin had written it. She was taken aback. “I was just leaving the store for work and I had to grab a fence. I thought I could see poorly. In the meantime, I forgot about it. I was really surprised. Colleagues made fun of me that I had such ideas without thinking. Sometimes it works out and it was supposed to serve a good purpose, so why not?
Mikaela Shiffrin connected her with one of her sponsors, with whom she subsequently agreed on the necessary things. Everything turned out well and a truck full of pasta came to Košice. “Technical things like when and where the truck comes, we argued directly with the company Mikaela connected us with.”
They didn’t even want to publicize all the support, they took it as the selfless help of an American skier. “It simply came to our notice then. She only did it because she wanted to help. We solved it together through the news. But such great help cannot be done completely anonymously. I am glad that it turned out in a positive spirit that I would like to help. And not that you just wanted to make a name for yourself, because it wasn’t about that at all, ” Košičanka explained.
Darka doesn’t feel like a heroine or anything like that. As she herself said: “I just wrote her a message.” However, he has the help, even with the whole family, in his blood. “When it all came out, I helped where I could. We try to be in these areas with my family. But I’m not the only one who helps, I just had this crazy idea. “
SHIFFRIN’S THANK YOU
You will inform about all the help over time on your social networks Mikaela Shiffrin, who thanked everyone who helped in any way in her long contribution.
“A few weeks ago, I published a paper on organizations that belong to extremely important work in Ukraine. Thank you all for supporting organizations that do all the work on the ground, even around the world, to make a difference. Many of you have offered me your ideas and given support, they have been able to give. Well thank you.”
She also mentioned a specific case with Darka, whom she even thanked in Slovak. “I wanted to mention one woman who turned specifically to me. Darka is one of many volunteers who do every job at a local refugee center in her hometown of Košice, Slovakia. I am captivated by the strength and perseverance of these people.
One of my sponsors helped in a big way by sending a truck full of supplies to Košice after Darka shared information about the help they were doing. Darka was also at the World Cup finals in Courchevel.
Thank you Darka for your support, but more importantly, thank you for what you do for those who support it the most. It really makes a difference. So for you: thank you. “
Mikaela Shiffrin also mentioned the group on Facebook: SOS UKRAINE 2022 Košice Staré Mesto district. “The link is to a public Facebook page founded by the mayor of Košice Staré Mesto. If you would like to help, the site needs information and all the money collected will only be used to help Ukraine. “
She also put the link in her Instagram description, which she has more than a million to follow.
