An immersion in the Middle Ages
Between Geneva and Annecy, in the small town of Andilly, enthusiasts have been organizing festive reconstructions of medieval life since 1996. The natural site of 15 hectares consists of a valley with a plain and a river. Each year, 1,000 extras, 500 artists offer more than 20 hours of daily entertainment over the 5 days of the event. At each edition, 60,000 spectators are present.
Spectators roam the site to watch falconry shows, jousting on horseback and sword fights. Dances and concerts of period music resonate in the undergrowth. You will pass through different villages that recreate the way of life of the time, with taverns, stonemasons, blacksmiths and jugglers.
You can also buy artistic objects made by people passionate about the Middle Ages. To eat, various inns and stalls offer you plenty of feasts. The Grandes Médiévales d’Andilly continue for two evenings at night with the magic of fire and unusual encounters.
Entertainment for children
In addition to the various shows on offer, children can take part in various activities:
- Mini jousting tournaments,
- A woodworking workshop to make magic wands and swords,
- In the craftsmen’s village, children can learn about wood and stone carving, embroidery and pottery,
- On the show, a small knight’s diploma is awarded with a medal.
