Johanna Treblin writes from MARZAHN-HELLERSDORF:
- After weeks of drought, it’s finally raining again in Berlin. And the next dry phase will definitely come in times of the climate crisis. In any case, the demand for irrigation water for public green spaces is high in the summer months. That’s why the left-wing faction in Marzahn-Hellersdorf wants the district to collect rainwater so that it can water the green spaces. So-called rainwater cisterns could, for example, be set up in courtyards in large housing estates. The reservoir could also help prevent small bodies of water from drying out. In many cases, the discharge of fresh water could be dispensed with and ponds stabilized. A motion to this effect was passed at the district assembly at the end of March.
