Is Zlatko Junuzovic hiring at Wiener Austria?
Zlatko Junuzovic will leave series champion Red Bull Salzburg in the summer – his contract will not be extended. Now Wiener Austria is pushing the door wide open for a return.
Zlatko Junuzovic’s departure from Red Bull Salzburg at the end of the season has already been decided. Salzburg secured that the collaboration with Junuzovic will end in the summer of 2022. The 34-year-old’s expiring contract will not be extended. The midfielder wore the jersey of the “Red Bulls” 115 times, recorded 13 goals and 32 assists and will probably leave the club as a four-time champion – on Sunday the former Werder professional scored the decisive winning goal in the 2-1 win over Rapid.
How things will continue in the summer is unclear. LASK and Wolfsberger AC are said to be interested in Junuzovic. And Wiener Austria is also considering a commitment. “I said to him: ‘Zladdi, before you go anywhere else in Austria, I have the key to the Austria Stadium,'” says Austria’s sports director Manuel Ortlechner heaven. “If he really wants to play purple again, he would make a lot of people happy here.”
Junuzovic made 112 appearances for the Veilchen, scoring 25 goals and providing 31 assists before moving to Werder Bremen in January 2012. “He can make his decision without stress and pressure. I could understand it somehow if he retires and works in a different capacity in Salzburg. But if he’s still keen on chasing the ball, why shouldn’t we be an option be?” says Ortlechner.
