Italian percussionist Luca Rossi brings the tarantulas to Athens
THE Luca RossiNeapolitan percussionist and songwriter, after his instrumental appearances and seminars in Athens in 2020, comes again for two days (8-10 / 4) in the Athenian capital bringing with him the rhythms of the tarantula.
His stops in Athens include: live performances (Red Jasper Cabaret, Free Self-Managed Theater ForwardKipseli Market, Tar Brewery) as well as percussion seminar in the Studio “Wrong Movement“.
At the Red Jasper Cabaret Theater together with the Athena Kyrousi SalvucciGreek-Italian dancer / choreographer and a singer who takes us on a journey through the tradition and culture of Lower Italy. As part of a music and dance performance / concert, the artists improvise inspired by the tradition of the tarantula. They give their own hue through their music and dance language but always with references to the tradition of their country.
Luca Rossi is an Italian percussionist, writer and performer for folk theater and folk music of southern Italy, one of the most famous tamura and tambourine players in Italy. He specializes in the techniques and styles of frame drums that belong to the Mediterranean. He studied ethnomusicology at the Department of Music and Performing Arts in Bologna. He has appeared on the Italian popular music scene and in the international ethnic music. In 2006, Luca won the first edition of the National Festival of Italian Ethnic Music “Terre in moto”. He published the book The Raccontaio. In 2009 he received the Sergio Manetti Literary Prize for Poetry in the Performing Arts at the Arezzo Academy of Art.
He teaches at various music academies and conducts regular drum workshops at world meetings such as the Academy of art in Arezzo and the Drumming Holiday in Austria. In 2011 he published the book Tammorra – Italian frame drums which is distributed worldwide.
Luca participates in various national music festivals both nationally and internationally such as Festival Decouvertèes Tunisie (Tunisia El Jem), Festival Internacional de Chiclana (Spain), Festival of Patras (Greece), Festival of the Mediterranean (Italy), More Dance Project (Lithuania), Concert for Europe Day (Armenia), Italian Culture Festival in Sofia (Bulgaria), Italian Festival in Thailand (Bangkok), Drumming Holiday (Austria) and many famous clubs, theaters, Italian TV .
In addition to performing, Luca also composes songs. He is one of the creators of the song Southern Sun that became the soundtrack of the movie Il Volo directed by Wim Wenders. He recently participated in the documentary of the American director Jonathan Demme dedicated to the career of Enzo Avitabile, accompanying his drums with the legends of world music.
