“This operation mobilized seventy police officers from the departmental directorate of public security (DDSP) of Haute-Savoie, reinforced for the occasion by about twenty personnel from the south-east zone and the RAID, to carry out several arrests in four municipalities simultaneously”, with the support “of a canine unit specializing in the search for narcotic products of the regional customs directorate”indicates a statement from the Annecy prosecutor’s office.
A turnover of more than 10,000 euros per day
Judicial information for “drug trafficking and association of criminals” was opened last November at the request of the public prosecutor of Annecy. This is “significant investigative work which has established the existence of an organized drug trafficking network with a point of sale generating a turnover of more than 10,000 euros per day”says the floor.
The traffickers carried out their transactions in the common areas of the building, some lookouts were hooded. “The searches led to the discovery of 166,235 euros in cash, 12 kilos of cannabis resin, more than 2 kilos of grass, 367 grams of cocaine, weapons and ammunition. Three vehicles and two motorcycles were seized as well as leather goods and luxury watches”.
Seven people in pre-trial detention
A total of nine people were arrested (including two minors), and seven were remanded in custody (including a minor). Since this crackdown, around forty police officers have been present in the area, day and night, “to prevent disturbances and allow the rehabilitation of deteriorated buildings in conjunction with social landlords”. According to the prosecution, the police officers mobilized on the ground “receive many testimonials from local residents, satisfied with our presence and the quality of life regained”.
