In the excellent season of the TFC (only three defeats and a mind-blowing total of 69 goals scored!), Dutch midfielder Branco Van den Boomen holds a special place. With 12 goals and 18 assists, he dazzles observers and the YouTube videos of his exploits, his polished shots, his technique and his “platinum” free kicks (a lot of opposing skylights have been cleaned) are running at full speed!
A victory and it’s almost Ligue 1
With the English will-o’-the-wisp and the darling of the Toulouse public Rhys Healey (top scorer in Ligue 2 with 15 goals in 27 games played), Van den Boomen will have a key role to play in what will be the poster of the year at the Stadium.
Saturday April 2, 2022, Philippe Montanier’s men received Paris FC, their runner-up, on behalf of the 31and day of Ligue 2. The Violets are seven points ahead of the Parisians, and eight points over the Corsicans of Ajaccio. The first two places being synonymous with a direct rise in Ligue 1, a victory this weekend would validate the ticket for Ligue 1.
Philippe Montanier: “It is complete”
Where will Van den Boomen stop? “I don’t know, but it’s true that Branco is a key player and he has a big influence on the team. He sets the tempo and plays in the different areas of the pitch. He also does his defensive duties remarkably well. He is complete, ”paid tribute to Philippe Montanier after the last victory at Auxerre (2-1), where Van den Boomen had almost sickened the Yonnais on his own with two goals.
It is valued at 4.5 million euros
With a market value that kept climbing – he is valued at 4.5 million euros by the specialized site Transfermarkt -, the future of the Dutch giant (1.89m!), involved in practically one out of two goals this season in the TFC jersey, will be closely scrutinized, the Toulouse leaders having at heart to keep the backbone of this season to exist in Ligue 1 in the event of accession. Arrived anonymously in August 2020 on the banks of the Garonne from the modest Dutch club of De Graafschap, Van den Boomen, elected player of the month for February 2022 in Ligue 2, is under contract until 2023 and could arouse the greed of certain Ligue 1 teams. We understand better why a rise in the elite would be a strong argument to make him stay…
In the meantime, the TFC will need him against Paris FC. A match which is played in front of a record attendance since more than 24,000 places had already been sold, Tuesday March 29, 2022.
