The transition between March and April will be radical in the sky of toulouse. After the remarkable mildness of the last weekend, as announced, of the snow will fall in Haute-Garonne andflakes could even whiten the Pink City this Friday 1uh April.
The department of Haute-Garonne was placed in yellow alert for snow and ice by Meteo France :
“We will go from spring to winter”
Ancient forecast for Météo France, Pascal Boureau summarizes this passage of witness for the less brutal: “we will go from spring to winter“. And this from this Friday 1uh April :
“There is even a risk of having, this Friday, at the end of the night and the beginning of the morning, a few snowflakes mixed with the rain in Toulouse, and more marked snowfalls in the Pyrenean foothills. The Comminges also risks finding itself under the snow, Friday morning. It can give, all the same, 2 to 5 centimeters, above 500 meters of altitude.
More snow on Saturday
Clearings are expected during the day on Friday and will allow the snow “to melt a little on the Pyrenean foothills”. But in the night from Friday to Saturday: bis repetita.
“Precipitation is expected, with snow, this time quite marked on the Pyrenean foothills. We can have, Saturday morning, 5 to 8 centimeters from 500 meters above sea level. “A few “very temporary” snowflakes could still fall in Toulouse.
Frosts before the return of sweetness
The beginning of April will therefore be very far away spring hopes. “The cold will persist until Monday 4,” says Pascal Boureau.
With a scourge characteristic of winter days.
“There will be the return of the frosts probably Monday and Tuesday, with temperatures around -1 and -2 in the Toulouse plain, ”continues the former forecaster. The frost episode was particularly marked in January, in the Pink City.
Pascal Boureau wants to be reassuring when talking about the fate of “vegetation”, in verve after a radiant start to spring. “The frosts can cause some problems, but for us to really have an attack on the plants, we have to fall from -3 degrees. “Which will not be the case in Toulouse, where the thaw “will arrive on Wednesday”.
An episode that is not exceptional
Spring seems well launched, with a beautiful and pleasant mildness… before the snow breaks the momentum. But Pascal Boureau recalls: “these episodes, including the snow, are not exceptional At the beginning of April. We have one every two years or so”.
“As regards the episode of snow, it happens that it snows at the beginning of May! There had been a precipitation of snow on May 5, 2010, with flakes in Toulouse. It had snowed well from Muret, to the Pyrenees.”
A remarkably mild March
On the sidelines of this explanation on the arrival of snow in Toulouse, Pascal Boureau made an inventory of the month of March, which he considered “remarkably soft, and watered. We are at an average of 15 degrees for the maximum , and 7 for the minimums. We are at +1.6 degrees compared to the usual averages in March”. In terms of precipitation, Météo France recorded, during the third month of the year, “75 litres/m² in the Toulouse plain, and up to 100 litres/m² in the Pyrenean foothills”.
