The Géant Casino of Toulouse Basso Cambo, Carcassonne and Narbonne will change sign
The Casino group has decided to change the sign of twenty Géant Casino hypermarkets in France. Three stores in our region are part of it. For several years, Géant has been reducing its number of hypermarkets.
Customers of the Géant hypermarkets in Toulouse Basso Cambo, Carcassonne or Narbonne will soon be taking their lessons in a new sign. The Casino group has decided to keep these stores but to drop their brand. These struggling hypermarkets will soon be transformed into Casino supermarkets, according to information from Olivier Dauversretail expert.
“It’s obviously the sign of a local commercial failure. The passage from a hyper to a super is never experienced as a promotion, more like a demotion”, explains Olivier Dauvers.
Casino had already renamed 9 Géant last year to turn them into supermarkets. At the same time, the group sold non-rentable stores to Leclerc, Intermarché or Super U. In our region, Leclerc had bought Géant Casino in Béziers (Hérault), Carcassonne Cité 2 and Castelnaudary (Aude), Castres (Tarn) , Anglet (Pyrénées-Atlantiques), Super U the store in Marmande (Lot-et-Garonne) and Intermarché the hypermarket in Montauban (Tarn-et-Garonne).
Proof of the difficulties in attracting customers, the Géant de Toulouse Basso Cambo has regularly changed brands over the past twenty years: Géant Casino, Géant Discount or Hyper Casino and again Géant Casino.
In Carcassonne, according to Olivie Dauvers, the staff authorities have requested an internal audit to confirm or not the merits of the change of sign.
