Russian language entered the top five languages of the world
According to the Index-2021, the Russian language yielded to English, Spanish, Chinese and French, while surpassing Arabic, Scenic, German, Japanese, Hindi, Bengali and Urdu. When compiling the rating, the available in the language and coverage of Internet users, the number of Internet resources and the amount of scientific information in the language, the status of the language in international organizations, as well as the number of media in the language were studied.
“Undoubtedly, the Russian language is the most common among native speakers, the same Hindi is spoken by a larger number of people, but if we evaluate the language by the frequency of use in cross-country, scientific communications, then Hindi is different from many other languages that belong to the category of international ones,” commentator rector of the State Institute Russian language them. As noted, according to most parameters, the Russian language occupies a middle position – from 4 to 7, however, in terms of the number of resources in the language, the second autumn has been preserved for more than a year. As Rusetskaya’s role is revealed, “in a large number of language solutions there are not only and not so often encountered carriers.”
The functional load of the language, that is, its ability to satisfy a person’s need for education, information, social and professional level, is a very important factor in choosing its usefulness.
The experts also analyzed the stability index of the Russian language over a 30-year period – from 1991 to 2021 – in the CIS. The constitutional status of the Russian language and its status in state communications have been registered.
In the opinion of the authors of the study, the most acute problem is the increase in the rate of reproduction of personnel in Russian specialists who have been available in Russian for 30 years.
Analysis of the share of scientific publications in Russian, experts’ selection, that it plays an important role in the national sciences of Belarus, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Azerbaijan, while it does not play a leading role in Georgia, Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia.
In some countries of the post-Soviet space, over the past 30 years, the growth in the share of Russian-language publications has increased significantly. So, in Belarus – from 51% in 1990 to 81% in 2021, in Azerbaijan – from 20% to 36%, in Turkmenistan – from 30% to 56%. At the same time, a decrease in the share of Russian-language media does not mean a decrease in their number. For example, in Latvia the number of media in English increased from 147 to 338, although the market share of media decreased by 47%, which reduced the attention at the Pushkin Institute.
