Portugal aims for first place in the European handball race | handball
The Portuguese Portuguese took over this Thursday the region of group 1 of the qualification for the euro24 of the handball selection group of the North and Portugal will face North Macedonia.
“It’s a group where, theoretically, we have to fight for first place. North Macedonia is a theoretically strong team and the rest, theoretically, are below the level of our selection”, explained by the coach, Paulo Pereira.
Portugal, which was part of pot 1, will face Macedonians in group 1, Macedonians from pot 2, from pot 3, and the Luxembourgers, from the pot, with the first two being Turkish for the final, in addition to the Turkish four best third parties.
Germany’s qualifying places are occupied in eight groups and in October of the 10 places occupied by the October tournament in Germany – and the three Euro2022 medalists: (gold), Spain (silver) and Denmark (bronze).
In all, there are 32 teams in search of qualification, with Portugal looking for the seventh qualifying, the third in a row, with the best result being the sixth of 2020. The national team was 10th in the last World Cup, in Egypt in 2021. .
