Near Toulouse. An Intermarché displays the heads of the “thieves of the month” at the entrance to its store

It is a business that is growing and now goes beyond the borders of Tarn-et-Garonne. Revealed by our colleagues from The Midi Dispatch, information puts the spotlight on a Intermarché supermarket in Verdun-sur-Garonne (Tarn-et-Garonne).
To fight against repeated shoplifting, the management of this Intermarché has indeed decided to display the photos of the alleged thieves from the store.
“Thieves of the month”
The pictures were displayed on an easel at the entrance of the establishment, on which customers could observe several photos of people taken without their knowledge via the store’s video surveillance, stealing. The list of “thieves of the month” as it was indicated on the panel.
The managers assume
Joined by Toulouse News Friday, March 31, 2022, hotel management declined to comment further.
The approach is unofficial but the couple of franchised managers took their initiative with the journalists of the regional daily.
Mixed reactions
The approach of the Intermarché de Verdun-sur-Garonne is reacting to the inhabitants of the city and the reactions are divided, some supporting the initiative, others rebelling against this practice.
The Intermarché brand did not wish to comment beyond measure on “this purely local initiative”.
“Each business leader is independent within the Mousquetaires group of which Intermarché is a part. This local and isolated initiative does not concern Intermarché”, supports the Mousquetaires group, contacted by Toulouse news.
