Does Belgium risk a gas supply problem? – Belgium
Belgium has no gas supply problems, even now that Russia is threatening to stop its deliveries if it is not paid in rubles, the office of Energy Minister Tinne Van der Straeten confirmed on Thursday ( Green).
Belgium has no problem because it acts as a hub for gas transport in Western Europe but also because only 6% of its gas imports come from Russia.
Experts within the administration and the Fluxys network operator are monitoring the situation closely, confirms the minister, who believes that the Russian song demonstrates that we must quickly ensure that we become independent of the fossil fuels of this country.
Other European countries, like Germany, are more dependent on Russian gas. They need to find ways to secure their supply. Chancellor Olaf Scholz however indicated that the country would continue to pay for Russian deliveries in euros or dollarstherefore risking a cessation of transfers.
