Investigators have raided another hawala network in various cities in Germany. The investigations were carried out against 31 suspects, said Julius Sterzel, spokesman for the Düsseldorf public prosecutor, who transmitted the investigations, on Wednesday to the German Press Agency.

According to the Federal Criminal Police Office, officials in Berlin, Hamburg, Essen, Mannheim, Mittenwalde, Hassloch and Schönefeld became active. Homes and offices have been searched.
The hawala system allows customers to transfer money outside of the government-approved banking and finance system for a commission. Hawala banking is widespread in Muslim countries as an alternative transfer system, but is banned in Germany. It is based on the mutual trust of professionals.
