General rehearsal for the Commissioners of the ACM – Pages Monaco
One month before the start of the Automobile Club de Monaco’s “circuit events”, the entire body of Stewards was mobilized this weekend for the traditional Training Course which was held at the Chapiteau de Fontvieille. Between learning the right gestures for the newcomers and general reviews for the more experienced, the 650 volunteers present themselves once again to prepare with rigor and professionalism the three events to come (Monaco E-Prix – April 30 / Monaco Grand Prix History – May 13-15 / Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix – May 26-29).
A studious and warm atmosphere reigned under the mild spring sun offered for the occasion by the Principality of Monaco. Unfolding with the new procedures and reworking the acquired knowledge: these were the watchwords of the weekend. Founded 50 years ago by the will of the President of the Automobile Club of Monaco, Me Michel Boéri, the Steward Training course offers all the Steward Corps teams a dozen workshops ( First Aid / Pre-video / Intervention / Post-video / Rail + Jack Workshop / Electrical Risks / “Gazelle” timed course / Flags and signaling circuit / Fire).
The aim is thus to test the reflexes, physical skills and reasoning of each candidate. Accustomed each year to the famous fire intervention and pilot extraction, the Stewards were able to rework the right actions to gain efficiency and control, on the valuable and effective advice of the Monaco Fire Brigade.
On the course program for 15 years, this workshop dramatically underlines the importance of working on fire control and pilot evacuation procedures in a very short time. In May, our Marshals will be subjected in particular to the control of the fire emitted by methanol, the fuel present in the gasoline of certain cars of the Historic Grand Prix and invisible to the naked eye. The use of specific fire extinguishers is therefore required.
New in 2022
The Marshals were able to benefit from fairly detailed theoretical and practical training on the electrical risks incurred with single-seaters in Formula 1 and Formula E. In order to get as close as possible to the conditions they will face in the event, LED lights have been installed on one of the test cars. The objective here is to reproduce the color system (green / red / blue) set up on the single-seaters, making it possible to inform the personnel of interventions on the dangerousness or not of the electrical risk in the event of a problem.
Another novelty this year: the installation of a new platform, with the aim of simulating the best possible extraction of the car from the track by the flat bottom.
Finally, note that the entire Internship is now computerized by a team of developers from the Corps of Commissioners, in order to have a complete view of the workshop (accounting and assessment of each volunteer on each position).
The handling of flags
On Sunday, the last highlight of the weekend takes place with the handling of the flags under the Chapiteau de Fontvieille. In this workshop, different course scenarios are considered in order to work on the application of track signaling rules.
In numbers
In 2022, the Body of Stewards of the Automobile Club of Monaco mobilizes nearly 650 people on each of the three events of the circuit. Among them, there are 72 new candidates, 52 scrutineers and nearly a hundred in charge of management.
See you now on April 12 for the General Meeting organized at Espace Léo Ferré, then on the weekend of April 23 & 24 for the delivery of equipment, a week before the 5th Monaco E-Prix (April 30).
