Cineto! Prince Albert I on camera – Pages Monaco
Thanks to loans from the Archives of the Palace of Monaco and the Oceanographic Institute, the collections of the Audiovisual Institute, the Cinémato! intends to remind Prince Albert I was a man open to the innovations of his time.
Photography, phonography and cinematography, in particular.
The devices used by the Prince, unveiled here, explain the technological beginnings of the very end of the 19th century. The abundant and mastered use that he will make of it, today leaves a sensitive trace of his expeditions, a heritage that testifies to his demand for a vast and lucid understanding of beings and things. The productions of the Prince and his “image companions”, Jules Richard, Louis Tinayre and Henry Bourée, thus form an important collection of images and sounds, bringing back scenes of life and work.
Compared with the writings and letters of the Prince, the images and sounds on display can be apprehended by the visitor in their context of creation, while contemplating their aesthetic quality. Through this exhibition, the visitor discovers an unknown part of the work of the sovereign explorer, scholar and humanist.
Free entry visit from Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. (5 p.m. on Friday) > Audiovisual Institute of Monaco, l’Engelin, 83-85 boulevard du Jardin Exotique, Monaco
