Another children’s orchestra and 6000 recorders

It is the most striking step in the plans of the tireless musician and music mediator and her team – the founding of the Children’s Youth Philharmonic Salzburg: “It is a string orchestra for children and young people from seven to sixteen who have fun and enjoy music, but also getting to know professional work,” emphasized the artistic director of the Salzburg Philharmonic today (March 30) during the program presentation together with the commercial director Reiner Philipp Kais. The invitation to come to the orchestra applies “only to children and young people who really practice every day”. A preview is in October. Towards the end of the summer holidays there will be an orchestra week. “We want to give young people the opportunity to gain their first orchestral experience at an early age. Having fun and enjoying making music is the priority. At the end of the week there is of course a concert.”
For the second time, but this time Austria-wide, the competition is on the agenda of the young people Show your talent in six categories between classic and rap. “Twenty acts will be selected from a hundred submissions and will be in the final,” says Elisabeth Fuchs, summing up the procedure. “Anyone who is there will also be in front of an audience on June 24th.” The family concerts of the children’s festival in their subscription versions are called Sorcerer’s Apprentice & Harry Potter, The Phoenix, Brahms for children, Elderberry winter magic and The magical Untersberg.
The Children’s Festival is turning fifteen: In these 15 years, 375,000 young people have attended the Children’s Festival events in the city of Salzburg alone. “To mark the anniversary, all girls starting school in the state of Salzburg will receive a recorder as a gift,” says Elisabeth Fuchs. The children’s festival will hand over six thousand recorders to the elementary schools at the beginning of September.
A new addition to the “main program” is a three-party subscription in the Great Festival Hall, with which the Salzburg Philharmonic will accompany the weekend with “refreshing concerts”. The series starts in October in the Great Festival Hall ABBA Symphonic – Thanks for the music. They will follow in January Klazz brothers with Classic meets Cuba and in April 2023 the women’s quartet Hello Classique “The art of music combines charm, humor and original acrobatics as a world premiere to be experienced with an orchestra for the first time”.
114 concerts by the Salzburg Philharmonic and 66 concerts by the Children’s Festival are on the program for the new season. With the soloists, “this year we are leaning further and reaching for the stars,” says Elisabeth Fuchs, naming the legendary mezzo-soprano Vesselina Kasarova (she will be Mahler’s primal light sing), the cellist Daniel Müller-Schott (with the Second Cello Concerto by Shostakovich) or the violinist Alina Pogostkina (with the Sibelius Violin Concerto). The actor and “mountain doctor” Hans Sigl, the Stravinskys, will be a guest again Story of the Soldier will read.
Despite the big name, she continues to value a “good mix” of established and up-and-coming people, stresses Elisabeth Fuchs: The fourteen-year-old pianist Elias Keller is on stage with the Salzburg Philharmonic for the third time. in the Great Hall on Saturdays and Sundays. The Salzburg Philharmonic gives guest performances with Reinhard Fendrich under the direction of Christian Kolonovits in Salzburg and Vienna. For Carl Orff’s CArmina Burana Mann is involved in horse training in the Arena Schloss Kaltenberg. A gala evening with Rolando Villazón is coming up again. Mountain is new: Classic in the Gastein mountains above the Schlossalbahn mountain station at 2,000 meters above sea level.
