Toulouse: with spring, the banks of the Garonne are full
The transition to summer time accompanied by a spring weekend precipitates the influx of city dwellers on the banks of the Garonne. Temperature price of one of Toulouse’s must-sees.
“This is the place to enjoy the sun” announces, smiling, Kurt, a 22-year-old student. With a particularly sunny weekend, the banks of the Garonne were crowded this Sunday. The transition to summer time and the printed temperatures encourage Toulouse residents to get some fresh air, to start the week gently.
A look around reveals the atmosphere that reigns there: sunglasses, the song of birds and young people lying on the grass. From the Pont Saint Pierre to the Pont Neuf, this place is the privileged landmark of the inhabitants of the pink city to have a good time, alone or accompanied. For Janaina, a 20-year-old student, the riverbanks are the perfect place to devour a book. “I don’t come often because I work but when the weather is nice it’s a super nice place,” she says. While her friends are working, she takes advantage of her Monday off to enjoy the outdoors. A little further on, a musician seated on a bench composes his music. With his guitar and his helmet, the sun accompanies the surges of inspiration.
Closer to the sea bream, young people meet up with friends. “When you don’t really know what to do, you come and hang out here,” says Charlotte, a student in Paris. She who comes to seek the southern sun, finds the perfect balance between mild temperatures and a refreshing breeze. The reputation of the quays, when the fine weather arrives, is common to all towns. “We are passing through Toulouse and we spontaneously thought of the banks with this beautiful sun”, reacts Richard, 68 years old. Originally from Tours, traveling in the south for a short stay, he discovered the city with his wife. “There are all ages, a lot of students, but it’s very pleasant,” observes Danielle, 68. After a partial closure of the banks of the Garonne last year because of covid, Toulouse residents can now freely enjoy one of their favorite places.
