In Luxembourg – How to process the info? 300 students were able to play young journalists
For the time of a competition, Benedikt, 17, a pupil of the Lycée Aline Mayrisch, put himself in the shoes of a real journalist. On Monday, he won with his class 3D1 the first prize in the 16-25 year old category of the Young Journalist competition, organized by the Press Council, the Zentrum fir politesch Bildung and the Ministry of National Education. They were no less than 300 students to compete, with video reports, podcasts or even articles. In the end, six projects carried out by around fifty students were rewarded, including that of Benedikt. The theme of this edition: the political and societal participation of young people. An inspiring subject for the young man who already has great ambitions. “This project really made me want to do politics and give more voice to young people like me,” he says.
As every year, the competition is open to any student wishing to carry out a journalistic project alone or with their class. “The idea is to get young people to acquire the keys to arming themselves with a distance criticism of the news, and to fight against fake news, explains Claude Karger, member of the Script, the Coordination Service of educational and technological research and innovation, from the Ministry of Education. Learn to find the right information, comment on it and process it for others. This is one of the aims of the competition”.
Different prizes were awarded by category:
In addition to a symbolic diploma, the winners are distributed with an envelope, for their class, in the amount of 250 euros for the 1st prize and 150 euros for the second.
