The Rouennais Jonathan Luquet launched in February a dating site with a rather particular concept. Objective: to connect users based on their favorite music.
Tell me your favorite artists and… I’ll tell you who your soul mate is! It is, exaggerating a little, the concept of “Banjo”. This Normandy dating sitewhich also exists as an application for IPhone, use data from our Spotify or Deezer accounts to detect musical similarities with other subscribers. “We are not going to ask someone if he listens to music”, we will immediately ask him the question of what music he listens to, because it is obvious […] Banjo will see things in the music of users that they themselves do not necessarily see, especially on titles that we will listen to frequently without putting them in our favorites. But they can match people, and fuel discussions !” explains Jonathan Luquet, the creator of “Banjo”.
Features related to the theme
Once registered, the site does not give access to all the musical data of the profiles concerned, but only to the titles and artists in common. And in addition to the characteristics present on other dating sites -age, location, description-, “Banjo” also invites you to define yourself via four songs -the best of all time, for a night of love, listened to in secret and in line with the mood of the day-, and has features to enrich the experience: “Every day, there is a song to find. You have to find it as quickly as possible. It’s one more excuse to discuss, launch the first topic of discussion around the blind test of the day, for example” says Jonathan Luquet, who plan to add concert recommendations to your concepts. “A brilliant idea for a first meeting, a first outing”.
Already more than 500 users across France
Launched last February, “Banjo” has more than 500 users across France. Members with whom Jonathan Luquet does not hesitate to exchange. This allows him to get feedback on the operation of his site, which already seems to be bearing fruit after only a few weeks of existence: “One of the registrants wrote to me recently to tell me that he had matched with someone and that the real meeting had taken place. To go to the meeting, there must have been a good feeling between them. I didn’t get all the details, but it’s great fun. Mission accomplished!” he smiled. His goal now is to see the app grow even bigger, so he can build a team and look for investors. And thus develop physical events related to its concept. “I already have some ideas” he slips.
