Historical success for Slovakia. Smolková won gold and Neupauer bronze at the Amateur MMA World Championships
AMSTERDAM. Great success of Slovak amateur MMA. This is probably how the performance of our charges at the victories of the GAMMA association could be described.
In the Striking MMA discipline, Slovakia takes home 2 medals with gold and bronze luster from the championship, thanks to Veronika Smolková and Adam Neupauer.
The first metal was taken care of by Adam Neupauer, who competed against Prites Baviskar from India in the quarterfinals. The Slovak national team was better in every way and controlled the match for three rounds.
In the middle, Neupauer ran into Dastana Suleiman. There was not much missing and we had two representatives in the final, when Neupauer almost knocked out in the first round on a nice left hook.
However, the opponent from Kyrgyzstan managed to shake and eventually brought the fight to a victorious end, which meant a bronze medal for our client.
“Unfortunately, after a clear 3-0 victory on my body, I did not make the next match to a victorious end, when I lost to the choke 6 seconds before the end of the round,” says Neupauer.
“But I won a bronze medal, which is appreciated. This experience has moved me and I will continue to work on myself. “
Veronika Smolková took care of the historical success. The one in the studio up to 61 kilograms needed 3 wins in 3 days for the overall championship.
Already the first match indicated that Smolková would attack the highest places, when she managed to start her opponent from Jordan in 2 results in the opening round and thus won with a technical knockout.
After the semi-final victory over the Spanish Leovigilda Gutierrez, Aikorik Kuandy from Kazakhstan, who had 15 fighters discovered in big fights, was waiting for the representative of Dracula Gyma in the final.
From the beginning of the fight, Smolková put pressure on her opponent and after the second she got her hard to read the kick on the head. Kuandy returned to the match, but after another round of strikes, referee Jakub Müller ended the fight.
“The final was very fast, I did not expect such a course at all,” said Smolková. “Before the match, I felt a lot of pressure and I didn’t believe as I should have. But this match has shown that I need to verify more. “
Paradoxically, the biggest test for the Slovak national team was not a fight for gold, but weight loss, as Smolková had to pass up to three times.
No wonder, after winning the gold, our representative celebrated it in her own way. “I’m going to eat well, I have a great appetite for pizza and cake,” she revealed with a smile.
The national team coach Dávid Kedžuch also praised his trustee, who prescribed a clear tactic.
“It was a perfect performance. She followed exactly what we said before the match. We knew the opponent would be boxing more, so we thought we needed to move sideways behind her back hand. “
“Exactly according to the instructions, we got a nice front kick and then a stretched back shot, after which the referee ended it.”
After winning the technical knockout, Slovakia was able to enjoy the world championship of the first gold in mixed martial arts of amateurs.
