The Extinction Rebellion makes a controversial move in Toulouse with its “Bloody Mary”
Once again, the Extinction Rebellion movement strikes the spirits in Toulouse. With masks of local politicians (Jean-Luc Moudenc) or national politicians (Macron, Pécresse, Le Pen, etc…) its activists poured red everywhere in order to encourage decision-makers to act against global warming . Non-violent but scathing, the movement is controversial.
Extinction Rebellion activists and the “Red Rebels” (red rebels) marched this Saturday, March 26 in the streets of Toulouse. “Our house is burning, the politicians are looking elsewhere”. As in the film “Don’t look up”, they fight in the face of certain denial and a certain indifference so that the climate emergency is finally taken into consideration.
On the central square of Toulouse, the road is still bloody, even on the doors of the Capitol. In a theatrical staging, activists dance with masks bearing the likenesses of presidential candidates to Pink Floyd’s famous track “Money.”
A little further on, women adorned and veiled in red carry coffins. Pregnant women parade more calmly dressed in white.
The “Bloody Mary” is a very hot and spicy cocktail. In the Extinction Rebellion shaker there are also activists flanked by masks of the 2 supposed finalists of the presidential election (Emmanuel Macron and Marine Le Pen) immaculate with blood kneeling people in white… The mayor of Toulouse is him also represented. What made the deputy mayor Laurence Arribagé react.
Extinction Rebellion was created in 2018 in the United Kingdom. This international social ecologist advocates the use of non-violent civil disobedience.
15 days ago, the activists were already in Toulouse for the “Look Up Walk”. A very young audience then marched for the climate. But they also campaign for the removal of advertising in public space, pollution, inequalities… All in a great agitation of the street and of the spirits in the form of theatrical wanderings.
Last November, the “Total Collapse” operation carried out against the French tanker also passed through Toulouse. In front of the courthouse, Extinction Rebellion activists demanded the opening of a legal investigation against the company Total, to denounce the exploitation and marketing ofFossil fuels, “extremely harmful” to the planet.
