Fos-sur-Mer faller during the first quarter-final of the Coupe de France, Pau-Lacq-Orthez is the first to qualify for the last four. Strasbourg followed suit against Boulogne-Levallois. If Monaco got away with Bourg-en-Bresse, ASVEL fell against Gravelines-Dunkerque.
Pau-Lacq-Orthez got the ball rolling. On the floor of the Arena Loire de Trélazé, Elan Béarnais validated his ticket for the last four of the Coupe de France at the expense of Fos-sur-Mer. Receiving only two points during the first five minutes, Dominique Archie’s teammates (12 points, 7 rebounds) immediately took control on the scoreboard. If the Provençals tried to react, they concluded the first quarter eight lengths from the Béarnais … before starting the second beating drum. Indeed, won by Lasan Kromah (26 points, 6 assists), Fos-sur-Mer was first able to recall before taking the advantage for the first time in the match but without taking a lead of more than two lengths. Elan Béarnais then raised their voices to regain control when returning to the locker room. The second half of the meeting did not experience the same scenario with Eric Bartecheky’s players who gradually flew to the scoreboard. Receiving only three points for just over five minutes in the third quarter, the Palois pushed their advantage to 19 units. Returning to thirteen lengths at the start of the fourth quarter, Fos-sur-Mer could not get any closer. Elan Béarnais won in the end by 21 points (93-72) and will now wait to know their opponent.
Strasbourg brings down the co-leader of the championship
Potential adversaries in which we find Strasbourg. Unlike last season, the SIG was able to pass the obstacle of the quarter-finals of the Coupe de France, at the big dam of Boulogne-Levallois. Gaylor Curier (16 points) and others flew to the score from the start, with a maximum difference of ten points in the first quarter. However, this lead has melted like snow in the sun for an Alsatian team which has not scored a single point in these first ten minutes. Worse, she conceded a series of nine units and saw the Metropolitans return to a length (22-21) before a second quarter in which a new Strasbourg series was the good one. With a series of ten entry points, the players of Lassi Tuovi regained a clear lead which they were able to increase thereafter. Most of the work was done at half-time with a fourteen-point lead. Boulogne-Levallois returned to the court with good best intentions and this was confirmed with a 9-0 entry in the third quarter for the teammates of Jordan McRae (25 points), the game’s top scorer. This time, Strasbourg held firm and kept a sufficient lead until the final buzzer for a success of eight lengths (95-87), making SIG the executioner of the co-leader of the Betclic Elite.
Monaco had the last word
Unlike Boulogne-Levallois, Monaco will not miss the last four of the Coupe de France. The “Roca Team” took the best of Bourg-en-Bresse to score their ticket. Abused at the start of the match, Paris Lee’s teammates (16 points) were able to raise the bar to conclude the first ten minutes with a ten-point lead. However, the Burgiens never let themselves be left behind, returning to five lengths during the second quarter. But, if they were able to keep their hand in the ten minutes following the break, Sasa Obradovic’s players missed their fourth quarter ename. Thanks in particular to Norris Cole (19 points), JL Bourg lost a 13-0 to ASM to take the lead. However, the Monegasques responded with an 11-0 at the very end of the match to ensure their qualification (74-65).
ASVEL gives up its trophy
Defending champion, ASVEL will not see the semi-finals of the Coupe de France. The Rhodaniens have, in fact, suffered the law of Gravelines-Dunkirk during the last quarter-final. If the BCM overcame the meeting better, the teammates of Chris Jones (18 points) regained control thanks to a 14-0. An advantage greater than ten lengths which held firm during the second quarter before seeing the Villeurbannais examine the last ten minutes with an advantage of eight lengths. Under the impetus of Jeremiah Hill (27 points, 5 rebounds), the Maritimes held on before changing the situation with a 10-0 which allowed them to come back up to ASVEL. Led by four points at the start of the last minute, the BCM snatched the victory (78-79) thanks to Kenneth Kadji (20 points) author of a three-point shot then the victory shot ten seconds from the buzzer.
