More and more private sector employees in the Principality
The Monegasque Institute for Statistics and Economic Studies (IMSEE) has unveiled its report on private sector employees in Monaco in 2021. Here are the three points to remember.
A number of employees close to that of before the crisis…
With 53,079 people in the private sector in 2021, more than 2,000 additional employees were recorded in Monaco last year, an increase of 4.1% compared to 2020. A level comparable to that of 2019 before the crisis.
It should be noted that men remain in the majority at more than 60%, as do the French and commuters. The average age of active employees in the private sector is 42.5 years. Women remain younger than men on average, while the most represented age group is that of 45-54 years.

Of the 997 Monegasque employees in the private sector in 2021, 37% are women. Aged 41.7 on average, nationals are younger than the whole of the salaried population.
…just like the number of employers
With 6,308 entities, the number of private employers also increased over the period (+3%), exceeding its 2019 level.
The number of structures has increased regardless of the size in terms of salaried workforce, while with nearly 2,500 entities, the proportion of employers of domestic staff remains constant, around 39%.

Structures with less than five employees remain preponderant, representing more than a third of all employers in 2021.
More and more commuters
With regard to commuters, its constituting the majority of Monaco’s salaried workforce and their proportion needs to increase. In December 2021, 88.6% of private sector employees worked in the Principality but did not live there, i.e. 0.4 points more than in 2020.
Among the 130 nationalities represented, the French are the most present, with nearly 33,000 people. They even recorded an increase of 3.7%.
