Milano Art Week: a week of exhibitions, installations and inaugurations
From March 28 to April 3, Milan is indulging in a week devoted to modern and contemporary art. On the program: a series of special initiatives, exhibitions, performances, installations and inaugurations.
Rendezvous with contemporary art during a special week that transforms Milan into a gallery broadcast across the city. The Milano Art Week provides for the inauguration of a series of exhibitions, to be visited at special times, performances and guided tours in public and private spaces.
The major events of Milano Art Week 2022
Among the inaugurations, the GAM (Gallery of Modern Art) launches the exhibition From above, so from below by Elisa Sighicelli (from March 28 until July 3) with the printing of photographs on paper, one on plaster and two sculptures. At CAP (Pavilion of Contemporary Art)the Polish artist Artur Zmijewski, takes the stage with his installations for the exhibition entitled “When fear eats the soul” (on view until June 12).
Zmijewski’s work reflects concern for today’s socio-political issues. The artist studies the mechanisms of power and oppression, the relationship between extreme emotions and their physical expressions. Throughout the week, it will be possible to access the exhibition with a discounted ticket.
the Pirelli HangarBicocca opens on March 30 an exhibition dedicated to Steve McQueen, which brings together a new selection of works. An opportunity to deepen the career of the artist in the visual arts, to highlight the evolution and the most innovative aspects of his work.
To the Prada Foundation on March 30, the exhibition opens “Useless bodies? » duo of artists Elmgreen&Dragset, which develops over four spaces, even in the courtyard of the Milanese museum. The project aims to explore the condition of the body in the post-industrial era.
Also on March 30, the special “NinnaNanna” project will be integrated into the cremation room of the Temple of the Crematorium, the result of the collaboration between the Museo del Novecento, the Archives of Maurizio Cattelan and the Monumental Cemetery. The work “Lullaby” (1994) by Maurizio Cattelan, created by the artist by collecting in bags, the rubble of the PAC (Pavilion of Contemporary Art) caused by a bomb during the mafia attack of July 27, 1993 , is exhibited for the first time in Milan. Particularly significant for the history of the Lombard capital and for the Civic Museums, the work will be donated by the artist to the Municipality of Milan, and will integrate the civic collections at the end of the exhibition (November 6).
As every year, a large place is also given to public art. On April 1, there will be the inauguration at CityLife of three new works by ArtLine, in addition to the other works that already populate the large park: “Atrium of looking to the future” by Mario Airò, “Red Pavilion” by Alfredo Jaar and “Guardians” by Kiki Smith.
During the week of Art Week, the Casa degli Artisti, the Emilio Scanavino Archive and the Casa della Memoria will also launch exhibition projects.
Also visit the Francesco Messina studio, the Boschi Di Stefano house museum, the Arnaldo Pomodoro Foundation, the ICA Milan Foundation, the Gallerie d’Italia, the Civic Aquarium, the Sforzesco Castle, the Francesco Somaini Foundation, or even the Vincenzo Agnetti Archive.
